Agum lambasted for opening PSSI candidate registration

A member of the Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) has lambasted the normalization committee for opening the registration for the PSSI chairman candidates, saying an election and appeals committee must be established before such a registration could be held.

Papua PSSI secretary-general Usman Fakaubun added that normalization committee chairman Agum Gumelar had misused his authority by opening the registration for PSSI chairman candidates.

He said the normalization committee should only act as a facilitator for the election of the new PSSI chairman.

“The new PSSI chairman election will be different if an election committee is not established. The election committee must comprise PSSI members, but Agum is not a member of the PSSI,” he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Agum, a former PSSI chairman, was appointed by world soccer body FIFA to chair the normalization committee, which was established to run PSSI daily activities following the failure of PSSI under Chairman Nurdin Halid to deal with a new league and hold a congress. The normalization committee will remain in place until the election of a new PSSI chairman.
